Commercial service FAQ
Commercial door operator and control questions
01 Why does the commercial operator run but the door does not move?
Possible causes include a disconnected drive, broken chain or sprocket, clutch or gearbox problems, a failed coupling, emergency release engagement, or a door-side failure such as broken springs or cables. The door and operator should be inspected together.
02 What is the difference between trolley, jackshaft, and hoist operators?
Trolley operators pull sectional doors through an overhead rail. Jackshaft operators mount near the door shaft and are common on high-lift, vertical-lift, and rolling doors. Hoist operators include manual chain operation for service and emergency use. The correct class depends on the door, mounting, cycles, controls, and environment.
03 Why will a commercial door open but not close?
A blocked or failed photo-eye, monitored edge fault, open stop circuit, control-station issue, incorrect limit, wiring problem, interlock, or access-control command may prevent closing. Safety devices should not be bypassed to force operation.
04 Can access control be connected to a commercial door operator?
Often, yes. Keypads, card readers, key switches, radio controls, timers, building systems, and other dry-contact or supported interfaces may be integrated when compatible with the operator and control logic. Safety and closing behavior must remain compliant with the system requirements.
